ALGERIA: The Amazigh / Idir

This video covers more than just Algeria – it’s a great primer on the culture and history of the Amazigh people (called Berbers, but I learned from this that it’s an outdated term), as well as their current interactions with North African governments.

This video also brought me to some absolutely beautiful music by Idir, one of Algeria’s most celebrated Kabyle musicians and an activist for Amazigh rights and cultural protection. This song is from a great album of Kabyle music, the entirety is available to listen here.
