FINLAND: Kantele / Traditional folk songs by Merja Soria

A hautingly beautiful traditional lullaby by Finnish singer Merja Soria – one her grandmother sang to her and she sings to her daughter. The instrument she’s playing is the kantele, a type of psaltery that can range from five strings to forty.

Take a listen to another folksong from Soria, “Aamulla Varhain”, about lost love. The one includes a ten string kantele.
